  • Purchased my first firearm

Well guys, after about a year long itch of wanting to get a handgun I finally made my decision

I stopped by gander mountain and picked up a Smith and Wesson M&P Shield .40, I've gone to the gun range twice in the past week getting to know the gun along with getting a few safety and shooting lessons from a good friend of mine.

I'm looking forward to visiting this part of dfwmustangs more often and learning from you guys.

By the way next on the list is taking my chl class at my local gun range.

In all honesty, the glock didn't fit as comfortable as the shield when held in my hand, maybe because of the double stack vs single, idk. This one felt right at home for me and the glock didn't justify the $100 price difference.

This will be my carry weapon as soon as I get my chl so I figured single stack would be a bit better when carrying with an iwb holster.

And yes the 9mm version of this gun was my first choice but something inside me was screaming for the .40, maybe I'll regret the decision in .40 down the road and if so, I will swap the barrel and buy some magazines to convert it, although right now it seems unlikely to happen

From my understanding the shield is not available in .45.

Don't listen to the .40 haters. It's a good caliber and congrats on the purchase.

I agree, .40 is a great caliber, as long as you are shooting guns chambered in 10mm!!! .40s&w is a solution looking for a problem...
