  • Keeping a record of your collection

So now that I finally have enough of a collection to warrant it I would like to keep some kind of record of what I have in my collection, not just in case of fire / theft, but especially in the case of ARs I could refer to it when shopping to see if I already have a rifle with this or that bit on it. So far the best idea I have is a USB stick with separate folders for each gun that would have pics and a txt file with info.

    What are you guys using?
    Jon

I have a simple word document with the following info:

      Type: (pistol, rifle, etc)
      Serial Number:
      Make:
      Model:
      Caliber/Gauge:
      Grips/Stock:
      Barrel Length:
      Overall Length:
      Finish:
      Scopes/Sights:
      Other Features:

      Repairs/Mods:

      Purchase Date:
      Cost:
      Condition:
      Estimated Current Value:

I then have a photo of the gun after it, and have it all in a bound binder as a hard copy backup.

        I use a spreadsheet.

I have a word doc saved, then I email it to myself when changes are made. So its in my saved emails as a backup as well.

Having my serial# handy just saved me from buying another XDs 45. Mine was stolen back in May. A guy tried to pawn it locally and it was delivered to the police and then to me today.

That is fucking cool. Good to hear of one actually being found and returned.
