The serpa looks good, but I decided against that in favor of a more universal mount, plus I was worried about the plastic breaking over time with the stress of the screws putting pressure on a weakened area. The plastic in a lot of vehicles these days is rather thin and weak. The glued velcro I used seems like it distributes the weight well and I didnt have to drill holes and weaken it, but I dont used it daily so I dont know how it will hold up long term. So far so good, though.

Yeah, I could see that. Not as worried about it inside the console though, since it should still stay within the holster (due to the retention).

I plan to look at the thread again when I get home, as your pic(s) are blocked for me at work, but your ideas sounds good.

Right now, the times I want to place my XD in my console, I just put the factory plastic holster on it to cover the trigger. I have a bunch of paper and napkins in there, so it doesn't bounce / slide around.

I still do want a mounted holster of some type though, mainly so I can grab it without having to look or dig.

All that said, I rarely carry it in my console, but on longer trips it gets uncomfortable IWB.

I just move all the junk in my center console to one side and stick my holstered weapon in the opening. Pretty epic design, I'd post a pic but it's too complicated.

That's David's problem.. He just got a new truck and hasn't had time to accumulate a bunch of junk in there yet.

David - Just wad up a few sheets of newspaper and stuff them in there first. Cheapest solution!

Well if you use washers to preach out the pressure it shouldn't be a problem no?

I like the Velcro idea and agree with your assessment of plastic. Further, selling the vehicle, just leave the fuzzy Velcro and call it a day.

I threw in a couple boxes of ammo and that slides around also.

I like the serpa mount idea to, but not sure I want to go drilling holes in my console since I'm not super spectacular in finish detail.

Actually found a pic on my phone. This is on a 99 tahoe, I used a maxpedition universal holster that has a velcro back. I glued a seperate piece of square velcro inside the console with e6000; this made the holster removable and fully adjustable to whatever gun I want. The holster is removable, however the velcro is not coming off. Total cost about $20.

Now that I can see your pic, I think I may just do that instead. I like that for its simplicity.

                    Here an idea

Recently, a Reddit user created a simple DIY tutorial to make an inexpensive gun magnet mount using a few easily obtainable parts. In the process of

The problem with the magnet in a vehicle is the trigger is left exposed, and I dont care what anyone says about not putting other stuff in the console, because they will like we all do. Plus it seems like the magnet may have trouble always holding the gun on bumps or in an accident. Whatever anyone decides to use, I would strongly suggest a holster that covers the trigger, at a bare minimum.

you could always add a small piece of kydex, leather etc

But I agree I dont know how well a magnet would do alone but when placed in location where it can get support from a wall or such it may not be an issue. If its not used for the fiirearm it could be used to hold mags

For anyone interested in the velcro maxpedition holster, maxpedition also makes mag holders of the same design that could be installed in the console as well with a velcro patch.

I'm going to give the Velcro setup a whirl. Bought a universal gun and mag holder off eBay. It's seems easy enough for me to do.

Yeah, I looked around their website from your link and planned the same. I was thinking of just covering one whole side with velcro and that would would give a ton of options for positioning and leaves it flexible for future changes. Gun, mag, flashlight, etc.

That is exactly what I planned on doing but haven't got that far yet. Work has been busy and I drive a company truck, plus we are in the middle of moving, so gun storage in my personal vehicle has not been at the top of my list of things to do lately.

If you find a source for the velcro patches to glue to the console post up a link, please. I just had happened to have a gun bag with a velro patch that never got used so I cut it off and used that. I need to find more of the velcro somewhere and go ahead and glue it on one weekend l.
