I saw a Spartan as bass pro about a year ago for $670, and no I'm not kidding.

Brazos lists them at $625 so that's entirely believable.

Sorry, trojan, not spartan, the US made one. It was a used model that had some ugly grips for $670.

I'd also like to say that was a stupid ass naming choice for those two pistols.

In that case, that's a steal! Bass Pro must not have known what they had, or quite possibly they got the two confused.

And yes, I agree the names are asinine.

Yeah I always have to google which is which. I remember being pretty shocked. It was gone by the time my friend came to pick it up.

                    Good deal...

CJ, just remember the Trojan protects you from bad decisions, the spartan is "sparse"

honestly i didn't know anything about it then, probably the same issue as what CJ expressed above. spartan, trojan, roman, gladiator... i dont know what is what.

i knew adam liked STI so i asked him. he said that was around what they went for. to his credit, i'm fairly certain last time i went they were still ~$1049 so i can still go buy one.

i am 1911 shopping. i sold my tortoise pt1911, while it was performed perfectly, i never got to grips with owning a taurus product.

i want something good with 3 dot (non-target) sights; night sights for bonus points. i have my eye on a springfield armory TRP but wont spend more than ~1200 for one.

sig 1911s seem like the new kimber to me. they make a bunch of the same gun in 42 flavors.

                          sti is the wild card.

les baer, dan wesson and the likes seem very nice but i don't need a ridiculously tight high precision machine. i just feel like that is going to complicate things with ammo selection and shit.

Trojan seems to be a safe bet other than the target sights. Take a look at the STI Lawman 5.0, just over your price range at $1500

I would love to own an STI, probably in an Officer Frame to start with just to see how they handled the small frame. Anybody else hear that STI had been bought out by another company? I ready this somewhere but can't find the link right now.

That was the rumor. I saw the thread over on 1911 forum. Seems to not be true from what I can gather. They do, however, appear to be going through some restructuring and possible expansion.
