LMFAO@ the SOG = china junk tag. Sure, if you are a cheap bitch and buy the crappy ones they suck. But pony up for one of the Japanese made blades and you can't do much better.Last edited by Pokulski-Blatz; 06-03-2014, 11:38 PM.

so moving on to other KNIFE topics...anyone every had a ceramic blade?
Found one on Brownell's site and got me to thinking about trying one. I know they can be brittle but the fact they are light and hold and edge well intrigues me.
input?

well, got my replacement carry knife in the mail yesterday. Gave the straight blade to the wife and kept the serrated one for me. Not that I call this a collection, but here is what I have usually in the night stand or within a few paces of me.
Top to bottom:
1. K-bar. Actually have a couple and keep them in the tool kits in the cars.
2. Gerber dirt duty and throw away if needed
3. an SK knives hand made custom I picked up in Fredericksburg a while back. just a good lookin' knife and sharp as hell.
4. My M&P auto knife with S30V blade.
5. And old LB7 Schrade that my grandfather left me when he passed a couple years ago. Best I can tell he bought it in 1978 (I was 4) and carried it daily. I have cleaned it up a bit but it stays in my nightstand unless I feel nostalgic.
My wife bought another SK custom that is a demascus folder with mammoths tooth skins. It's AWESOME but it stays in the safe as it was pretty expensive.
I plan on acquiring a few more and maybe look into ceramics, but not for carry....you know, for when zombies attack!

Was going to start a knife thread then found this one. I've had a ton of knives but only recently started getting into what type of metals are used, sharpening techniques etc. Right now for EDC I carry a Gerber Hinderer and recently got a CRKT Minimalist. The Gerber is really well designed and equipped with the cutter and window breaker, I just wish they had used a better metal and not done a crappy job of coating the blade. I haven't done much with the CRKT so cant give any kind of review on it but it comes decently sharp and I got it mostly for self defense purposes. I've always disliked the the tiny feel of "neck knives," the grips are small and seem easy for your hand to slip off of. The CRKT has a pretty solid feel when you grab it, yet it is tiny and light and I really like that aspect of it.

I also have a couple Knives of Alaska knives (Bush camp and skinning set) that are the highest end knives that I own. I really love the Bush Camp knife and have used it for everything from skinning an animal to chopping some kindling for a fire. At first sight I thought the handle was a bit bulky but it is solid and well balanced IMO. The skinning set is nice as well but felt they could have come a bit sharper out of the box.

Whats everyone using for sharpeners? I have been thinking of getting the Ken Onion belt sharpener system.
