I guess it's a reflection of the quality of the posts I'm responding to.

Okay, maybe I'm just a complete fucking asshole here. Someone please explain to me how someone who has carried an exposed weapon on their person for over 20 years telling me that carrying an exposed weapon on their person is a terrible idea and shouldn't be allowed makes sense. I'm all ears.

Because he is required to as a uniformed officer. If he could wear normal clothes, you bet you ass he would roll concealed. I know this because when I have hung out with Matt off duty we have talked about concealed carry methods and pieces.

Which is exactly my point. He has opened carried for all that time, along with tens of thousands of other officers throughout the country. It's already well established that most gun attacks happen at places where guns are not allowed, or resistance will be minimal. If they were openly visible everywhere, what is the logical conclusion one would come to following that logic?

threat assessment. The hostile takes out the highest level of threat first.

The most viable threat is somebody with a firearm in hand, the next being the person with an exposed weapon (open carry), concealed weapons don't become a threat until the attempted pull or exposure.

the other problem that open carry creates is that hostiles become harder to identify. Is that a meth head looking to kill me or is it frost exercising his 2a.

I'll stick to concealed carry. I like to keep the element of surprise.

Without my gun hobby. I would cut off my own dick and let the rats eat it...

I hear this theory all the time. When has it ever actually happened? How many people intentionally commit a crime in front of the police?

A mentally disturbed gunman sprayed bullets from a car in a Southern California college town, killing six people, sheriff’s deputies said. He also died.

Last year sometime I posted up a whole slew of stories where it happened.
"When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin
"A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury." -Alexander Fraser Tytler

Well, I worded that really poorly unfortunately. Maybe I was thinking more highly of humans than they deserved while I was still waking up. At any rate, I concede that it DOES happen, but in such a small cross section it is akin to picking one incident out of a sampling size of tens of thousands and presenting it as the norm.

Do you guys think if one in five people were walking around with a visible firearm it would decrease crime? One in twenty? I genuinely do.

The only person in the room who's going to have the element of surprise is the one who grabs your gun. No way i'm going to allow that.
