(This is more aimed at the "protestors", not so much the guy who simply agrees with the idea. I'm sure we have one or two around - Wyant50 where you at?)
The other thread got me thinking about this. I seriously question the tactics used by many open carry protestors and I wanted to get their input.
It seems to me that there are a lot of people that will engage in a conversation with you, even if they disagree with what you have to say. Then you have the opportunity to influence people in a positive way. Right or wrong, many of those same people will never hear you out when you have a rifle in your hand.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not questioning rights. I likely agree with many open carry supporters in this area.
My question is, Why do you protest the way you do? Why do you need to carry the weapon on your back or in your hand while protesting? What makes you think the way you have chosen to protest will do any good? Have you ever had one person walk up to you and go “by golly that gun didn’t automatically fire a heat seeking nuke-ular missle at me when I walked up, I guess you boys are right!”
Your method may be well-intentioned, but it seems misguided. I don’t think you have changed any minds for the better. I think you are pushing moderates to the wrong side and galvanizing your opposition. I think you have closed the minds of those you wish to influence before you even speak a word.
This is an important topic because of the attention you garner. You are the face of the 2nd Amendment to some people. What picture are you giving them?
