Mine is out of "plain sight" but if you're standing where a cop normally would and you're looking for shit you can notice it.

A few weeks ago, in my CHL class, our instructor said that the law stipulates that the weapon is only considered concealed if it cannot be seen when all door of the vehicle are open. That's why I ask about under the steering column. I asked the instructor and two of my police buddies and all confirmed that a cop can bust you for that if they so choose.

So does this change when the open carry laws come online?

I don't believe so. I think the open carry laws only addressed actually wearing the gun openly. Ihave not read anything about car carry changes, at least.

The law is currently worded that the gun has to be in a holster, what wasnt implicitly stated was whether the combo has to be worn

I have been pulled over three times now with it there. They all said the same thing. " Don't reach for it ". I'm the least threatening person to pull over, though. I roll down all my windows, turn off the car and toss my keys on the dash, and announce every move I make before I make it.

Perhaps overkill but still better to be safe when dealing with the popo. I'm only questioning the legality of using such a setup, not whether is is a good idea or not. Be safe.

It needs a thumb break on the velcro strap.

Ha! I just realized that. I'd probably use it without the velcro strap but if I needed one I have a cheaper holster that has a velcro strap with a thumb break.

so is that adhesive on the other side of that velcro patch? how does that handle the in-car thousand degree days of a texas summer?

like a drop leg, right? owb appendix carry is the only way to go, imo.

Like what? Apendix carry doesn't work for me while seated. Nor does a cross draw.

I'm assuming it has adhesive just based on how it would work. But will it handle a hot Texas summer? Maybe not if it's got weight on it while sitting in the summer heat I would think. The only experience I have is a suction cup mount for my phone holder and my Valentine V1. I'm sure the key is getting a clean install.

But what if that doesn't work for the user? Appendix doesn't work for me, not with a 1911 and my fat ass. Drop leg might work but what do I do when I get out of the car? Honestly the only thing that's worked for me is situational awareness and off body carry in a high threat situation like an ATM stop at night.
