Well, I went to Home Depot, Ace, Fastenal, and Grainger and none of them carry this thread pitch.

Atwell tactical in Richardson, $75 and he does a great job, and he's fast. His shop always has a wall of Accuracy International rifles, and other incredibly pricey guns in for threading, so if they trust their guns to him, I trust mine. He's done 5 rifles for me, no problems. There's a gun in Rockwall that does it for $50, he's cheaper but quite a pain to deal with given the distance.

I've only used him as a FFL but he's a good dude and serious about what he does.

The 1/2x28 threads are messed up? Lowes probably won't have a die but they do have nuts that size, if the threads aren't too bad.

Correct. A few of the threads look like they are a little rounded.

Could I buy a bolt that size and force it on? I don't want to fuck the threads up to the point where VQ wont replace.

If you're going to do it yourself, spend the relatively small coin to get the tool. Don't cheap out and then hate yourself later. Or, wait the necessary time and have the manufacturer do it the right way. Just my 2¢
