Anyone have any experience/opinions on them? Thinking about selling/trading up with one of my lower end 1911s

yeah if it's a cheap one the sig will definitely be nicer than that. They are a decent entry level 1911 that will function.

Any other suggestions around the $1000 price? I was looking at the sig nightmare carry and stainless colt commander. I know te colt is a solid gun.

you may be able to find a used colt series 70 in that price range, all of those would be good guns. I have a sig nightmare 938 that I carry.

Get the nightmare or the tac ops. both are great guns.

Glock makes a model chambered in .45acp, which is basically just a better 1911. You should get that.

I love 1911s. My most recent one is a Sig. I went to a very well informed large dealer in town (not worried about price but I still got a great deal), and was looking specifically for a 1911 in the 1K range. I explained that I wanted a shooter and worry free gun. The choice was clear from there: Sig. Now you can smith any 1911 to be an incredible gun, but if you want one that shoots great and no worries a Sig is hard to beat. You have get over the external extractor thing though, and a lot of 1911 guys cannot.

I was told flat out if you want a Colt, you are going to have to smith it to get the reliability you want. I had cash in hand to buy any Colt in the store too.

So I bought a Sig 1911 and an M1A on that day and haven't looked back.

I'm considering a Sig P227 for my next purchase rather seriously too. I also need to build a 16" 223/5.56 rifle for the wife and need a couple of ACOGs. I need glass for my M1..... decisions.

I have three colt 1911's and all three shoot fine. I mean, I havent put them through any extensive reliability tests, but I have shot them a lot without issue. I love em.

I think a lot of people want 1911's to run forever with zero maintenance, and that just isn't happening. There shouldn't be anything wrong with Colts out of the box.

I haven't shot a ton of rounds out of my entry level sig 1911, but it seems to shoot good with no complaints.

Agreed. Sounds like he was selling sigs that day.

My colt ran fine besides the HP bullets that have a lead ring at the tip of the jacket. I polished the ramp a little and it was just fine.

For that price point, I would look into the Magnum Research Desert Eagle 1911. Don't own one, but it is on my list.

It was referred to me by some guys who shoot 1911's alot, and they love it.

I own one. Great gun! For the price, they aren't as tight as some of the higher end models but for the money, great! I did have a problem with the front sight as it had a roll pin that came out after about 30 rounds. I found a new one and put it in and voila. I purposely put a deformation in the slide to hold the pin better and so far no issues. Have about 500 rounds through it and good to go. Some magazines are finicky and as usual, 1911's have to be clean. I started using gun grease instead of oil and all my issues went away....but damn does it get dirty.

BTW...that price at Bud's is GREAT!
