yeah if it's a cheap one the sig will definitely be nicer than that. They are a decent entry level 1911 that will function."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

I love 1911s. My most recent one is a Sig. I went to a very well informed large dealer in town (not worried about price but I still got a great deal), and was looking specifically for a 1911 in the 1K range. I explained that I wanted a shooter and worry free gun. The choice was clear from there: Sig. Now you can smith any 1911 to be an incredible gun, but if you want one that shoots great and no worries a Sig is hard to beat. You have get over the external extractor thing though, and a lot of 1911 guys cannot.
I was told flat out if you want a Colt, you are going to have to smith it to get the reliability you want. I had cash in hand to buy any Colt in the store too.
So I bought a Sig 1911 and an M1A on that day and haven't looked back.
I'm considering a Sig P227 for my next purchase rather seriously too. I also need to build a 16" 223/5.56 rifle for the wife and need a couple of ACOGs. I need glass for my M1..... decisions.

For that price point, I would look into the Magnum Research Desert Eagle 1911. Don't own one, but it is on my list.
It was referred to me by some guys who shoot 1911's alot, and they love it.
