A good friend of mine asked me to join him in calling some coyotes and help clearing them off his land. I will be going in a couple weeks. However, I've never called coyotes and while I admitted to being a new I don't want to have to learn everything in the wee hours of the night. So, does anyone have any suggestions, stories, etc?

I enjoy calling for yotes as they are pretty clever.
Night or day hunting?
edit, nevermind, missed the wee hours of night comment. Make sure to have a good spotlight and I like using red lenses on my lights. Make sure the wind is in your favor and be sure to watch the downwind side as well as they will try to circle downwind. One thing that I've learned is if you get busted and they take off, 90% of the time they will stop once at the edge of a clearing to look one last time, be ready to take that shot when they stop.Last edited by Pewter Y2K Z28; 02-25-2014, 02:17 PM."A bad day hunting beats a good day at work"

I wish i could call with artifiacal light.
Find draws and set up down wind. Those suckers will pick out the slightest movement as well. Once im set up im as still as i can be until its time to move and shoot.
I dont spend more that 15 minutes per sit unless trying to call in a bobcat. Then i will sit for a hour per set.
Like pewter said the will stop normally. Bark at them or whoop. I can usually make a yote stop and look atleast once.
After a kill hit coyote in distress also known as a kiyi. Spell check there. Its mating season and you should find them. Paired up.

I'll see how the first hunt goes. If he truly has a problem as he's explained in the past I'll see if he'd let me bring a friend, or two. If I know you personally (Met at Keith's, at the group shoot, or even let me flog their race car) and you are serious about going, send me a PM. All he can do is say no. My brother in law (Leah's brother) uses a manual call for them. It's supposed to simulate the wounded rabbit. Last time we were at his lease it brought them near, and he took a couple shots, but we were doing it from camp rather than the blinds, so we didn't get anything.
In the past he has taken a small pig and hanged it near the camp site, then just waited. Apparently that worked well.
