  • M&P Shield owners

How many here own the M&P Shield? What do you like and what don't you like about it? I've shot the full size M&P's and they shot pretty well. I'm looking at sub $500 carry pistol options and it's on my list.

Edit: Is there anyone that owns both the M&P 9c and the Shield, that can give a good comparison?

They had to issue a press release saying their triggers weren't defective, and wouldn't be fixable by their warranty system, so that's awesome.

I have the 9mm version and like the form & fit of it a lot. I may sell it soon however because I'm a lefty and it is not ambidextrous. Happy with the purchase, but may have been happier with a pocket sized gun. Having to take on and off a holster sure makes carrying more of a pain.

I don't know about a shooting comparison, but compared to the M&Pc the Shield is pencil-thin. It's also a smaller fit in your hand and it doesn't have the replaceable palm backings.

I've shot both the 9 and 40 and they're nice guns. A little snappier than the compacts. Grips are a lot thinner. A good carry gun and still fun to shoot at the range.

Greg, let me know if you want to go shoot mine one day

I have the Shield in 9mm and the S&W Chief's Special 9mm too. Both are about the same size. The Shield was the better shooting gun between it and the XDS 9mm. I paid 359 +tax, shipping, and transfer when PSA had a special on them a while back.

I'm going to take you up on that. I'm taking a CHL class at Frisco Gun Club on March 1st and I'm going to try and have a decision made on an every day carry by the end of March. That way I can start carrying when my CHL comes in late April/early May.

Take a look at Kahr as well. I'm really liking my CW9. The trigger reset takes some getting used to, but it is very accurate and I shoot it well.
                      They are around $360 new.

I'd be looking at sub compact XDs or Glocks (shoot both to see which you are better with). They should both be under $500 used, if not new.

I have a Shield in .40 and I like it. I don't have huge hands so the thinner grip helps me control it better. My wife even prefers shooting it over her Nano. Her Nano doesn't have an extended mag like my Shield, so that helps too. Although I do find myself carrying my XD40 service model just as much because of capacity envy.

Yeah.. I carry the same and 12+1 of .40 is comforting.

I was actually looking for a M&P or XD subcompact in .40 when I happened upon the shield. Guy made me an offer I couldn't pass up for it.
