  • tumbler trials. lots of dust!

Was bored this evening so I stuck a bunch of my acp and long colt brass in the PAST tumbler my FIL just gave me. It appears to be walnut media. I did add some turtle wax to it (2cap fulls. No nu-finish at the house. experimenting with turtle wax). It ran my brass for about 4 hours. Came out clean. Or what I know as clean. There is dust on all the brass. Is this a huge problem or do I need to rinse these out. And if so, with what and what is ur procedure? Thx.

I use cob media but I also have a lid which helps cut the dust factor WAY down. I would say just rinse them off under some water and lay them out to dry on a towel or something.

When I use my sonic cleaner, I just rinse and lay them out on a towel and have had zero issues and zero concerns with regards to my process.

Mine go straight from the ultrasonic to the tumbler with great results.

As far as dust goes it depends on how much it is on if I would worry or not. Some people put dryer sheets in them to reduce it. A possible cause of it could be the type of media and how much dust or fine particles are in it from the start. I use the walnut stuff from Harbor Freight and it works pretty good.

Ah, so you let the tumbler do the drying...I have thought about this though I felt it would break the media down quicker...though I have never attempted it.

I tumble, deprime, sonic clean, rinse, dry and then tumble again...but I have a touch of OCD...

Not to take away from your thread OP, I would say a dryer sheet is the number one suggestion on how to cut down dust, I have just never had to try it. If you have alot of dust, perhaps swapping your media out might help.

You'll have dust with most media. Walnut and FLITZ works GREAT!

It has a lid. Dust during the tumble isn't the issue. Its the dust on the rounds. It stays in my garage so I'm not concerned about its environmental dust.

                You need a case/media separator

It's the wax your using and the lid. Take the lid off and switch to flitz. Dust is collecting to the cases because of static. You can also put a few dryer sheets in there to absorb dust, but taking the lid off fixes that. Run them outside on the back porch, not in the garage, dust gets everywhere.
