There are a few rules with todays compounds. Never ever ever pull a bow back without a arrow nocked. You will dry fire it, It will happen, but when

Never pull todays compounds back with fingers, you can derail the string off the cams easily.

Always have your finger behind the trigger of your release while drawing back, or you will send a arrow flying when you dont want it too.
Solid advice above, though the best bow shot in hunting finger releases his bow.

You can de cam one with a release as well. But its very rare.

Good luck mototman. Its a freaking blast when you start thinking like a predator. All of my shots this year but one where 20 yards and under. Furthest was 30. Closest was 11.

I had 23 deer under me one night all in 20 yards. It was a rush not being detected.

I am in kansas so my hunting situation is different than texas. But I always put in my 2 cents

Thanks for the info you've provided fellas. There's a lot for me to figure out and I just need to get out and shoot a bunch different bows. I'm sure I'll have more questions in the future.

Make sure and go to a Pro shop and look at the used bows. As soon as the new models come out most of the archery guys are like Apple users , they have to get the new model asap .I have been shooting the same Matthews for 10 yrs . My bow is still faster than most new bows 330 plus ibo. New models are more forgiving than mine but I'll keep it till it breaks . Most of the used bows that are a couple of years old can be picked up loaded for about half the price of a new raw bow .

Tim Wells is who I was talking about. Finger releases his bow nd does not use a sight.
