Inside the barrel, not that I saw. I spent quite a while running bore brushes down the barrel and then soaking it in gun oil.

I'm dealing with a pitted rust barrel on a black powder

What are you going to do about that? I'd just toss it if the barrel was pitted in the barrel, especially on a cheap rifle

It's a cheap rifle. The rifling looks okay but it's definitely not perfect. Part of me wants to just trash the whole project. The time it would take exceeds the guns value.

I would trash it, if it's badly pitted. Black powder is corrosive, so it'll just get worse.

From what I read, some black powder ignition by-products are NaCl(salt). Salt inside a barrel = rust. The old 7.62x54 ammo was corrosive due to the primer powder. NaCl residue = rust. Hence corrosive ammo.

CJ please correct me if I am in error.

Yes, they have standard smokeless powder but use primers with potassium chloride which is corrosive. The reason Russia does this is they are cheap bastards and the shelf life of potassium chloride primers is much longer than non-corrosive. That's the same reason WW1 russian spam cans are still fine to shoot today. It has it benefits.

Here is a Model 60 a did a few years back. Cant remember what grain i used on the wood but like the stain it was whatever i head laying around the garage at the time.

I posted this on Canada but after looking through my photobucket i figured i would post it here too. My Papaw was helping his friend clean out a condemned house and found two Glenfield 60's behind the hot water heater. He gave me this one, the worst of the two. The brown stuff you see is dead cockroaches, you couldn't even
You remember the stories John use to tell us about the the three chinamen playing Fantan? This guy runs up to them and says, "Hey, the world's coming to an end!" and the first one says, "Well, I best go to the mission and pray," and the second one says, "Well, hell, I'm gonna go and buy me a case of Mezcal and six whores," and the third one says "Well, I'm gonna finish the game." I shall finish the game, Doc.

220 grit is working like a boss. I took what was left of the clear coat off and the coloring just pretty much came off right behind it. I roughed it up a bit and applied the first coat of what is called "Gunstock." I figured it was fitting.
