Does anyone know how the range officer shot himself in the hand at the frisco gun club opening? Is the staff that incompetent or is it more of a freak accident with a random discharge?

This might fly in the face of logic, but "professionals" can become complacent because of how much experience they have and just as prone to accidents as novices are.
That said, I have never been to their range. I know the guys at the range I use are almost overly safe, if there is such a thing. But I don't mind the occasional reminder if I am doing something unsafe.
Short story to tell on myself: I was practicing coming out of the holster, dry fire, rack slide and reholster with an empty magazine standing in the lane always pointing my pistol at the target when breaking the shot. A friend was behind me loading magazines for me in random loads with snap caps mixed in. He inserted a magazine into the pistol from behind. I knew he did it. I felt it and I consciously acknowledged the gun is no longer empty. I drew, pushed it out, broke the trigger, racked the slide and re-holstered. When I repeated, pushed the gun out and broke the trigger, the gun went off, obviously. Shocked I was, stunned at my almost dangerous mistake. Because in a few instances earlier, I was putting the pistol back in the holster after breaking the trigger down at the floor and holstering a malfunctioned gun. Had I done that after chamber'ing the round, I might have shot myself or the floor.Fuck you. We're going to Costco.
