  • 300blk SBR questions

Im finally going to buy parts for a SBR build. I keep reading that the shorter the better. I know CMMG has a 8.5" barrel, but I just ran across RedX who has a 7.5". Ultimately this gun will get a suppressor. Is 7.5" too short? Its also stainless and cheaper than the CMMG

Also is it worth it to buy a nickel boron BCG?

I wouldnt say the shorter the better, but the 300blk is a highly efficient round. You wont get gains like normal for having a 20" barrel. That isnt to say you wont get some extra punch from a 10"

I run an 8.5" Rainier Arms Ultra-Match barrel on my .300blk pistol. Runs and groups like a dream.

I've got the 8.5" CMMG on mine and it runs fine.

Don't get the red x barrel if you plan on using a suppressor. They use 1:10 twist blanks, which isn't enough for subsonic. I have a 9.5" myself.

Well this is what I ordered:
            Red X:
            7.5" 1:7 twist barrel
            Pistol length gas tube
            Tactical charging handle
            Complete upper
            .750" low profile gas block

            Palmetto State Armory
            PSA full auto bcg

            Need to find handguards

That's good, looks like they charged their blanks finally. I had e-mailed them last year asking why in the world they would be making SBR barrels for .300blk that couldn't stabilize subsonic rounds and they responded in complete bewilderment. They said they didn't even consider it because suppressors are not even legal where they manufacture.

Any suggestions on what length hand guard? I was originally thinking of getting an Osprey 45 to have a dual purpose can but thinking of just getting a rifle can and a Osprey for my 45 later on. That being said, Im not sure what length handguard that will look right on a suppressor. Probably go with the same compensator that Motoman went with

Well it depends on how you want to do it. An osprey wouldn't be my first choice if you want it inside the handguard since it's asymmetrical. Most .300BLK guns are shot only suppressed, so a lot of people opt to have the muzzle inside the handguard so the suppressor is protected and it looks seamless. If you plan on shooting it unsuppressed sometimes then you can opt for a handguard that's right at the muzzle so it's as short as possible unsuppressed, and still looks seamless. That usually takes a little bit of homework to get the handguard length just right. I would really recommend a samson evolution rail myself, I like them because they are cheap, light as hell, comfortable, thin, and able to fit a suppressor inside.

I dig the seamless look, but the suppressor barely fit down inside the hand guard and now the finish is trashed. I'll have it cleaned and repainted, but it's not going back on my upper until I open up the inside diameter some more.

What suppressor and what handguard did you use?

Wrap a sheet of paper around it when you screw it in, then pull it out. Most of the time the hand guard will be slightly off, depending on the type. Mine is slightly off so I just hold my can to once side when I screw it on and it never touches.

The hand guard is manufactured by Samson for a company called 5.56 Tactical and the suppressor is a Ross Precision.
