  • Shotguns, Maverick series

Is there a huge difference between these and the regular 500s? I know the trigger can't be interchanged but what about barrels and stocks? They are really cheap. It won't be used for hunting at all, mainly for home defense and show. I might take it skeet shooting every once in a while.

I think the biggest difference is the receiver. Can't remember all the differences but know the safety is on the trigger guard on the 88 and on the "tang"of the 500.

We sell more Maverick 88's than any other shotgun and I haven't seen a single one come back to be sent off for repair...
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776

Biggest difference is you can't put an mag extension tube on the mavericks and fewer aftermarket parts are available for it.

You can but you have to swap out part from its more expensive counterpart.

I hate to recommend someone pay money for a Mossberg 500, but here we are. Don't bother with the Maverick, dude.

Cheap closet gun. Don't expect it to be a show piece. Solid work horse.

I say spend a bit more for a remi express.

cheap guns I keep around the house/garage/barn. They go bang when you pull the trigger.
