Find out what qualifies. If need be, I could use a good excuse to go again and meet up with you. They only charge $10 for the 2 hour stint.

I shot a my first match at Elm Fork with Dallas Action Pistol Shooters (DAPS). I sent them an email and told them I was interested in attending an event. After a couple of emails back and forth with their director Chris, he talked me into coming out to the event. Couldn't have found a nicer group of individuals IMO. They even let me borrow a vest and a kydex holster to use for the match. Every shooter I met made me feel comfortable being there and offered any advice you could ask for.

The second match I shot was with Cross Timbers Action Shooters. They shoot two different places, a private range in Cresson, and JCSSA (CJ's range). The match I went to was out at CJ's range and it very similar to DAPS. Shooters out there seemed a little more serious and not as many were quite as talkative.

If I've been wanting to get started into it but I never took the step of paying dues and joining. At the time ammo was still expensive. If I were to sign up, I'd go through DAPS.

For pointers, get out and try it, just know you're not going to be as fast as everyone and score as high as everyone. Every person I talked to said don't worry about time right now, just make all of your shots count.

For concealment. As you know, IDPA stands for International Defense Pistol Association, so every round starts with the pistol being concealed. Doesn't matter if it's a vest, jacket, shirt, or hoodie, as long as it conceals the pistol and you can safely draw from the holster, its allowed. They try to make the round more realistic by having you draw from a holster at a certain point. You may not start off standing behind a barrier, you may have to run up 5-10 yards and draw from concealment while peaking around a barrier at your target.

Ok, I was thinking that a shirt would work. Was confused on why you would need a vest.

Most people wear a jacket or vest. If you wear a shirt, I'd make sure it's a looser type of shirt.
