My first 1911 was a Rock Island Compact GI and it ran great while I had it. I got rid of it because it only liked ball ammo and I couldn't get it to run well with hollow point ammo. One has to remember that they're a very inexpensive firearm and you get what you pay for.

    Because you brought it up.
it shot fine the first range trip. Seems to me yours didn't run very well either given the reason you sold it. I can't see trusting my life to a gun that won't feed reliably. Exactly what you said " you get what you pay for"

I get the idea of no sights for less chance of hang ups and most self defense you don't have time to use your sights anyways. But I can see why people would miss them.

I know it's further out but if you go to Shoot Smart in Ft. Worth and pay for a premium rental $20-$25, you can shoot as many of their rentals as you'd like. I know Bullet Trap in Plano charges per rental, and I'm not sure about the new range in Lewisville.

I was at SS a few weeks back and shot nearly everything they had in the display case.

Oh, I get it. Because we are younger we have absolutely zero advice that any of you old wise folks would use, despite the fact that it may be good and correct advice. It all makes sense.

You two are a bunch of sandy vaginas. I wouldn't say calling a gun a piece of shit with no supporting facts as to why you think it's a piece of shit is good and or correct advice. I've yet to see you or Jeremy give any contribution besides "ask jeremy how it ran" and "it's a piece of shit". So given that, I stand by the statement chris made.

Give it up Greg, we don't know anything about guns. These guys have at least two years experience between the two of them. How can we possibly know what we are talking about?

A shorter slide means a shorter amount of time to synch. This leads to more failure to ejects and failure to feeds. A longer slide is more forgiving and less ammo finicky.

A picture is worth a thousand words, so check out any number of working diagrams or 3D models of a 1911. Wilson Combat has some good ones.

That's cool, you offered advice about your compact 1911 with reliability issues. I can't believe no one said anything about that before. Holy crap! That kid did! You don't have to own a shit ton of guns that don't work to see what shit doesn't work. Smaller barrel 1911's tend to have issues. Was that not a correct statement?

I'm not saying you guys don't know. I'm saying that you are discounting advice needlessly. We don't have as much experience as you. Does a lack of experience make good advice null and void?

I didn't read shit in this thread, but as for a RIA compact or RIA in general they are cheap 1911's and they only shoot full metal jacket ball 230gr ammo. They will not cycle hollow points. Just be aware.
