Funny how M79s show up in modern pictures of Iraq and Afghanistan every now and again:

Dig that super snubby m4 barrel the guy in the rear is carrying.
Heres some m79s from my final deployment.
They're sill used, dont you worry

Bottom pic is about the rear door in our truck.

That is fucking awesome. Holding a piece of history. Straight from Nam to Afghanistan and Iraq. Who carries those? Is there a designated grenadier in a unit still? My brother was vehicle support and convoy escort in the Army and he was issued an M16A2 w/ an M203 in Iraq. I wasn't aware soldiers were being issued M79's only again. That was typical in Nam, they would get an M79 and a side arm if I'm not mistaken.

          That last pic is sweet.

M79s are the best grenade launchers.

I coulda sworn that the quadrant sight was introduced after I left the Army.

It was a SOF unit. Everyone had extensive training in all weapons. We had them above the back door, and on the rare occasion we ran man turreted HMMWVs (as opposed to CROWs or RWSs) the gunner would have it up there with him.

There are a lot of 40MM rounds. I saw an Air Force guy volunteer to take a nerf round (riot control) to the back at about 40 feet. He was a big fellow and it brought him to his knees and looked terrible with in about 20 seconds.
              check out the M576 round

Just like the m79, all the old 1911s are still around too. Everyone thought all these weapons were rounded up and disposed of, but that's not exactly the case. It was more common in that unit to see H&k/SIG/1911 sidearms than it was the standard issue M9.

Here's one more little gun pic to drool over.

Fuck that. I have some less than lethal rounds and I've seen the damage they can do to wood and cars. That shit has to hurt badly.

Not to mention without a helmet. He's got good faith in that shooter. I find anything within 100yds on a grenade launcher is a tough sell first round. They fly high leaving the gun.

You are the only person I know who has used a mark 23 in the military. Still have that pic of you shooting it?

                              Shit yea.
No one in big army knew wtf it was. It was commonly reffered to as the "robocop gun".

Sadly, the only picture I have with it.
