I agree! Sounds like we are going to be the newb squad.

I'm not convinced. I would ask on the Facebook page (see post #2). I have a feeling a fiber optic front sight doesn't bump you up to open.

Also, do we have to do the long range stage? I am terrible at long range and don't think my .223 would do very well with 1x optics at 400 yards: (FF to 1:50)
I'll watch the video tomorrow; it is getting late for me. I think you can choose not to shoot a target and just take the time penalty. Again, worth asking on the Facebook page. I am in the same boat. I will be using an Aimpoint with a 4MOA dot. I'm not looking forward to any long range shots either.

I will post up a couple links to some 3-gun dedicated forums with lots of info tomorrow. But, keep in mind, you don't need anything fancy to get started. A semi-automatic handgun with a holster, semi-automatic rifle, and a shotgun.
meh, I think the best I would be able to muster up from my safe that would work would be an SKS, and It isnt even in the same zip code as accurate is.

So I would have to borrow all the equipment, and then spend some money I shouldnt on ammo for the event. Ill just watch.

I'll probably spectate as well so I can get the feel of things. I've always wanted to get into this sport.

No clue what our plans are around that time yet but if we're not out of town then I'll head out there with you. I've been considering some sort of 3 gun or IDPA type of competition as a hobby.

                  Don't be beach.

How about tactical speed trials CQB with bolt action rifles? Bayonet hits score as well.

lol, I totally heard that as russian in my head, I hope that is what you were going for.

And YES to the CQB with bayos, but only if they have Nazi emblems on their sleeves.

I'm really interested, but I am over in Keller so I would probably just meet you peeps down there. (Free rides from Keller)

I'd have to talk to my cousin as well, and I am slowly converting him to the ways of firearms (I have emphasized safety with him every time I take him to the range) so if he's interested we might meet up down there.
I appreciate the offer, but I'm good. I plan to buy a shotgun this next year. Where in Keller? We should head to the range one day. I'm down the street from Keller

Ryan, somebody just posted this on the North Texas MultiGun's Facebook page and it sounds like it would be right up your alley. Precision 3-Gun (handgun, carbine, precision rifle) in Marble Falls, TX shooting out to 700 yards.

Motoman, correct me if I am wrong, but aren't you petty big into photography? If I remember right, you take great pictures. Maybe you can bring your camera out.

Yeah, it looks like they did one shot out to 530 yards too, but it is an IPSC sized steel target. I am sure the long shots is just going to be one of many items on my 'need to improve' list when the day is done.

Why don't you guys do your own thing out at the sand pit? Last time I was out there my brother and I set up several mini stages with about a dozen of my steel targets, clays, and my 2x4 homemade target. Then you can use whatever gun you wanted.

I don't think my Gamo will reach 600 yards.

                              Facebook responses:

-You can skip targets and take the time penalty
                              -10-15 people on a squad
-Fiber optic front sight does NOT bump you up to Open Division
