Having owned a Glock 22 and 27 I'll argue the merit of possessing a .40 S&W Glock but pretty much those concerns are cured by a barrel change right? Never had a problem with the 27 I owned and I shot thousands of rounds through it over a little over 10 years of time. I sold it to Adam and I hadn't heard any complaints from him. Actually the 27 was the only time I had a problem when with Glocks when I shot some +P Corbon rounds out of it and I busted the guide rod. It was actually on the first range outing and Glock sent me a new guide rod. Never had another problem with and and it was a great gun and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.
But there's something to be said about the 1911 trigger and the .45 ACP round. I'd venture to say I'd go to war with one after it's been through a few hundred rounds and you now the limitations of the design.
It needs cleaning. You won't expect to go through mud and gunk and expect it to keep firing. You know it might have issues with magazines and certain ammunition which is why you take it to the range and TEST it. I think it's all worth it in a self defense situation if it's been gone through thoroughly. Sure I've had issues with the one of the Kimber Ultra Carry's I own but the Kimber Custom II I'd put up against any other brand of 1911.
Hey,the handgun it only there to get me to my long gun. I'm not going to expect it to go through a thousand rounds without a cleaning.

Just want to add that I love that Kimber Custom II. It was the first 1911 I bought myself and it was a gift to my dad. I got it back to him one he no longer had the strength to rack the slide and I replaced it with a Taurus M85 revolver that's similarly preformed flawlessly. He's gone now and I still have the Kimber. Still on the original guide rod and spring and I've been shooting it on and off now for close to ten years. About time I replace those though.
