1911 purchase help

Desert Eagle sells a great 1911 around the $700 range. Got great reviews when released and I own one and love it. I also love the 2 Sigs 1911's we have but those will be north of your price range. I also enjoy shooting my Rock Island 9mm/.22TCM 1911. It's loose but it cycles like a champ.

You want new or used?

I would go with either. It doesn't have to be new. Another thing I might need to do is save more money lol.

Run from the Ruger that gun is a piece of shit. I have also heard of the Kimber issues but nothing first hand.

fine looking gun! How do you like it so far?

It is a great gun and was dead reliable with all the ammo I shot through it; factory round nose and hollow points as well as handloads with RN and HP, both 185 gr and 230 gr. Very accurate too but I just couldn't get used to the gutter sight.
I think I've seen a Talo Edition that had regular sights on it so that would have been a better choice for me.
I recently sold it and I've got my heart set on an STI Lawman 3.0 in .45 right now.

I've had a few different brands and most have been pretty good. This was the last addition (S&W 1911 E series) I picked it up for right at $1000 new. I have yet to have a problem with it, even took 3 racoons while bow hunting with it a few weeks ago. This new E series seems to be pretty decent compared to some of their past 1911 ventures.

I hate to say this, and know I will catch shit for it, but I would not trust my life with any factory 1911. At least none considered "affordable". That is not to say that there are none that are of good quality and that perform perfectly out of the box, but I have just seen too many formal and / or informal reviews of 1911's from people who have had problems.

I would trust pretty much any Glock or Springfield XD over any "1911" any day.

I don't trust any gun for carry regardless of what kind it is until I've shot a few hundred rounds through it to prove its reliability with the ammo it will be carried with. As for factory 1911s, plenty of American servicemen as well as some law enforcement have trusted their lives with them over the years.

Don't get me wrong, I know my opinion is definitely biased and likely flawed.. I'm just typing my unsolicited thoughts on the matter.

I wouldn't trust one either without shooting several hundred rounds at the minimum. I think I mentioned this on another thread but I'm pretty confident in saying I would trust an out of the box Glock, XD, or M&P.

I would still get one... out of every pistol I've shot, the 1911 is by far my favorite!

ive owned several 1911's, but i have gotten rid of them all. i love to shoot them, but hate to carry one.

I like looking at my 1911's, and shooting them. That's about it. Single stack heavy 45 caliber guns with tight clearances aren't my ideal carry gun
