  • 1911 purchase help

Looking for a 1911. I have looked online at the KIMBERS, SIGS, STI, RUGER.

Anyone have one that's a can't miss? Any that I should stay away from?

Does anyone have a gently used one they want to sell?

I like the Sigs, Springfield, and colts. I have a very low opinion of Kimber after reading about them and their issues

There's a decently priced sig 1911 in the classifieds right now I think...

Gotcha. Anyone have the VZ grips? I really like the looks of them.
I was trying to stay under 850-900$ for the gun.

You can get a basic STI for that money without working too hard.

I have VZ grips on my Colt New Agent and Beretta M9A1. I am very happy with the way they feel and look. They offer a bunch of different textures too depending on what your intended use is for the gun.
I've handled and shot a bunch of different 1911s. I am fond of Colts and I think the Rugers and Springfields are good solid guns for the money. The Sig I played with had a somewhat gritty trigger but functioned well. I am considering getting an STI for my next carry gun (leaning toward the Lawman 3.0).
              No experience with Kimber.

I just bought a Colt XSE for my wife today. It's her Christmas present and our first 1911. Can't wait to shoot it.

First question would be what size 1911 are you looking for? I've owned 5 Kimbers and still have 4 of them. The newest one I haven't test fired yet and the last one I'm having problems with FTE's. It was a heavily used gun and I've done a basic cleaning on it but really want to tear it down (along with the bad reputation external extractor) and take it to the range before I give up on it.

If I had to buy a new one and spend what I consider a reasonable amount of money, I would go with a Springfield TRP or possible an STI. Les Baer and Wilson are way over my budget. VZ grips are on my list of what to buy next along with a good set of night sights (haven't decided on the brand yet).

Desert Eagle sells a great 1911 around the $700 range. Got great reviews when released and I own one and love it. I also love the 2 Sigs 1911's we have but those will be north of your price range. I also enjoy shooting my Rock Island 9mm/.22TCM 1911. It's loose but it cycles like a champ.

                            You want new or used?

Very nice. If I decide to get rid of my Ultra Carry's I would go with this or an STI.
