I'd suggest looking at Walmart in that price range. Most cheap dome tents wont really let you stand up in them, at least the ones I've had. Depending on how much you camp, start with a cheap one and go from there. My first 2/3 person dome tent I bought from Walmart. Ran me under $40 but was miserable in the summer because it didn't flow any air and was realistically smaller than what it was advertised. Much happier with a slightly more expensive tent.
Probably not the best picture of it but it's the best tent I've bought so far. Got it from work on "perk" points. It's a two person tent and it sleeps that perfectly. Sets up in under two minutes if I have help. And is perfect in summer weather as you take the rain fly off and it's all mesh.
Looks identical to one my dad carries on his motorcycle trips. He has a 1 man setup and what appears to be this one. I used this on at the Classic Harvest last year. Sets up really quick, the bows get placed in the base holes, the tent naps to the bows (no having to run them through the sleeves and hassling with it), the rain fly gets thrown on and you stake it.
You can, but a blanket is easier. Pay attention to how you hang it. It needs to have a little slack in it, so you can sleep diagonally in it. That will let you stretch out and sleep in a level position. Also, double hammock or not: there is no good hammock for two people. The best sleeping arrangement for two people is two hammocks, so tell your girl she's getting her own.

hah! i dont even know of any girls that would go camping, just a bunch of divas. fml
I haven't tried a sleeping bag in mine, but I don't think it would work out that great. I have used a blanket in mine and it works just fine in moderate weather, but if it were cold I think the heat would be sucked out the bottom of the hammock.

Actually it's an old ALPS Mountaineering Meramac 2. It's discontinued and I bought it for a little under $100 (actually perk points from work). Best tent I've ever had and sets up in minutes.

You guys should see ThreeFingerPete use one. That dude rolls up in a big comforter in his hammock, and uses two pillows. It's pretty funny, until you realize how comfortable that must be. Then you're just jealous.

Jealous enough to climb in huh? Can't even call it spooning in a hammock. Like two knifes laying in there together.
I still have to recommend a tent have a full floor/sealed. I know they are lighter without and all that but to me a couple of pounds does not make a difference.
