  • Need help with Kimber Ultra Carry disassembly

Picked up used Kimber Ultra Carry that has the external extractor on it from a buddy of mine who needed some cash. Took it to the range a few weeks ago and it was jamming pretty regularly with FTE. This is my third Kimber but my first with the external extractor and I'm wondering if it just needs to be cleaned real good. Knowing him it's been shot a lot and cleaned very little.

I know how to take off the slide and barrel but I've never gone any further than that with taking out the firing PIN, extractor, etc. Can anyone give me a hand showing me how to detail strip a 1911?

Good video but unfortunately it covers the internal extractor and not the external one. Yes shooting Remington and Winchester White Box FMJ.

The problem with the external extractors is you need 3 hands to do it you have to apply pressure to the back of the extractor to take some of the pressure off while holding a punch and knocking the pin out putting it back is even less fun as you have to hold the extractor lined up while you drive the pin back in

couple things to look at is the extractor hook chipped? does it move really easy? does the hook look to fully engage the cartridge rim?

Thanks for the tips. I was reading something similar on another thread I found. And good info on what to look for.
