bore sighting an AR myself

I'm thinking if buying on if those over-the-counter boresight lasers...

What else will I need to sight it in myself? I have a good 40 yard stretch at my house, do I just hang a target on the fence and zero it in?

At 50 yards set the sights about an inch and a half higher than the dot.

Start at 25 yards if unsure. Then move to 50-100.

I should be able to do this at Elm Fork right? I mainly just want to be sure it's on paper before going to the range, or just do it all at the range

Take the upper off, remove BCH and CH and set it on a rest. See where the barrel is pointed by looking through it from where the BCG goes in. Zero scope/irons to that point and work from there. Should be good enough to get you on paper

finally got around to sighting/shooting my AR yesterday. the laser bore sighter was pretty simple to do. At least now I can say I've done it.

the BSA red dot worked well. Elm Fork would only allow me to use the 50 yard range with a red-dot and FMJ's. I was able to group it in the little 4"ish targets even though the dot just about covered it up.

Anyway, thought I'd post up... I was pretty happy with the way the gun handled.
