I think so

He looked about 35 or so. He wasn't doing anything but watching from what I could tell when he got hit. There was no ricochet sound at all, I think all of us standing there were lucky it didn't hit in the chest, eye or head on anybody.
Tell ya what, I'll sure be a lot more aware of people's shooting at the range from now on. The guy with the AR that caused the ricochet had fired 5 or 6 shots at 50ft. and his target was clean.Don't worry about what you can't change.

Every time I've gone to Alpine the place has been packed like a tuna can. I just don't feel safe being around that many people shooting that I don't know and who I'm sure rarely if ever go to shoot anyway. Haven't been there in a long while. Guns are to be greatly respected, they're not something you can ever slip up with, the one time you do...

Way too many morons at Alpine. You just cannot go there on a weekend. The more I shoot, the more I hate to shoot around other people I don't know.
I just wished I had closer access to a private range. Being part of the Sandpit was fucking awesome aside from the 2hour drive to get there.Last edited by KBScobravert; 09-25-2013, 10:47 PM.Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

The only time I go to Alpine is when is is virtually a ghost town (mornings during the week). Even then, if it starts to get even a little crowded, I call it a day. Dangerous, unskilled, and discourteous are a bad combination with many of their patrons."It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself."

it wasn't crowded
I got there at 10:30 on Thursday. There were mostly Vietnam Era old men getting ready to deer hunt sighting in deer rifles. On the 100 yard center fire range there were 3 people including me. I took my .17 to the 50 yard range and there was only one person there, the 23 year old with the new AR, he had walked down at the same time I did me and he put up a 100 yard size target. He had a friend with him but he wasn't shooting. I watched him shoot the AR, it had some sort of a dot type straight tube short scope that was elevated off the mount like a handle. sorry, I don't know all the fancy names for this stuff. every shot he fired hit the board above the range till the 4 or so shot 180'd and hit the guy in the top of his forearm.Don't worry about what you can't change.

One advantage living in VA is being able to go to the NRA Headquarters' firing range. They do not fuck around. I have seen them in the face of the tacticools many times especially from a kid pointing his gun down range gangster style. It's almost as enjoyable watching that shit happen than actually shooting.

One time at Alpine I was shooting on one of the shorter pistol ranges. Lanky long haired guy walks up with a buddy and sets his stuff on the table. He looks around at everyone shooting, ducks under the table, and proceeds to walk toward the boards to put up his target.
I think I scared him a little bit when I yelled at him to stop, I was a little panicked at that point myself. Couldn't believe what I just saw. Needless to say I didn't stick around to see how he shot.
I'm not a huge fan of 4 or 5 ranges with 1 RO. They never seemed to have appropriate supervision on anything but the 100yd range."A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have."

I have to rethink going to ranges any more. I know accidents can happen anywhere, but multiply it by several other guns, bullets, idiots and just shear chance I don't think I care to try it. I'd rather just shoot on private land into a creek bed or something. I am on blood thinners permanently due to my 2nd event with a PE a few weeks ago. A shot that might not be lethal for someone else can be for me especially if the bleeding were internal.
