Agreed, I would hold no grudge either if I screwed up in such a manner.

Gun safety really is not that hard, you just have to think of others, what you're doing and generally not be self centered. Those are all traits lacking in people these days.
      This..

Watched a guy in my BT squad get knocked the fuck out by a boot to the head from a Drill Sgt at one of our first range visits. He was in the foxhole and had a malfunction and turned is rifle perpendicular to try and clear it (pointing right down the firing line). Drill Sgt was about 5 feet away and booted him in the head like a football kickoff. lol

Luckily for the kid's sake he had his Kevlar on.

I'm amazed they don't have more incidents like that. Those folks have one of the most difficult jobs in the world. They get to turn a bunch of teenagers into semi responsible adults in 10 weeks.

8 weeks for Army, but yeah.. Although they have it down to a science at this point. Heavy repetition on everything works wonders.

And they are clear from the get go that any mishandling of a weapon will almost always result in getting beat the fuck down. On the range is one place where they can still legitimately strike you.

The scariest part for them isn't even the rifle range, it's the live grenade range.

I pretty much stopped going to the garland range the same reasons. Sandpit FTW!
