  • Accident at the gun range

I went to Alpine today to check my guns, 2 30/06's and a .17. all ok there but I switched over to the 50' range to check the .17 at 50'. I had just put up a target and was standing behind my shooting window watching a guy shoot a AR about 3 windows over. I noticed he was hitting the wood protector that hangs above the shooting lane. I didn't really thing anything about it, he was firing at a shot every 2 seconds and when he let up i was going to tell him. All of a sudden a guy off to our left grabbed his arm, a ricochet had hit him in the forearm and went in his arm. the wood covered guards above the shooting lanes have steel behind them and the guy hitting high caused a bullet to 180 back and hit that guy in the arm.
The guy shooting into the wood was using a 223 leaded ammo but the 50' range was marked 22 rimfire and pistol only. The guy with lead in the arm went off in a ambulance.

I guess the moral is, if you see someone so far off the target high, stop them immediately.
Don't worry about what you can't change.
Do the best you can with what you have.
Be honest, even if it hurts.

The last time I pulled up to the rifle range at Alpine, a ricochet'ed bullet landed on the cowl of my truck. I pulled it down out of park and left, and have not been to either their pistol or rifle range since. I have shot skeet and trap there, but I park way out in the back.

Notify the range officer immediately rather than try to stop them yourself. People are crazy and I wouldn't chance getting shot by someone for trying to point out a safey issue.

      Oh, and fuck Alpine!
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776

Was in a competition pistol shoot early this year that was being run in a tree line along a nice, well built rifle bay. Kept getting ricochets out over our heads. 1st one everyone sort went Huh!. Then 5 more and we were ducking behind any tree we could find. guy tore off to find the range officer and they shut down the bay.

that day made me think a LOT more about idiots at the range.

Yea Alpine has gone to shit. I left last time because I genuinely thought the three woman and 10 year old next to me were going to blow me away by accident. EVERY time they hit paper they would turn around (gun swinging with them, finger on the trigger) and jump like omg lol omfg I shot a paper! Crazy bitches.

I'm very cautious about people at the range after what happened to me. I have no issues telling someone to stop fucking around.

That is some scary stuff. Do you reckon that the man will be okay who was hit?

Yep. Gun Ranges are scary because of this type of incident. People who have no experience or safety training have no business in an open environment like that.

I'm sketchy on going to most ranges these days. I always thought the military was weird and over bearing on range control issues, but people are fucking idiots and need to be straightened out and kept in line.

I was fortunate to miss an incident of a guy getting a 30 cal round through both thighs and having to be care flighted. Fuck that.

All the women were with their husbands who just dropped them off and went to the 100 yard range to sight in their hunting rifles. The first time they did it, the bitch pointed it right at me. I grabbed it and swung it down range and she looked at me like I was a fucking retard. I tried to explain but it was clearly over their head, so I left.

                          Haha.

I got the screen name from high school. "Crazy Cracka" I just shortened it.

Frankly, the Army made me a gun safety nazi to be honest and for good reason. All the Army does is severely beat the golden rules into your head. Even people who are relatively safe compared to most get lectured by me sometimes.

It's a shame people can't just use common sense though. To be honest, if I f'up and accidentally point a gun the wrong way - I'd not hold a grudge against someone bashing me in the face with their stock.

Gun safety really is not that hard, you just have to think of others, what you're doing and generally not be self centered. Those are all traits lacking in people these days.

It was on the Jewmadbro? account. I was shooting at an indoor range and got hit in the chest with a ricochet that some fucker shot off the ceiling.
