Anybody here shoot 3 gun competitions or anything like that? Are there local "leagues" or ranges that allow this? Something that I've always been curious about and interested in, but know nothing about aside from youtube videos. On a side note this guy is freaking fast!

    That is very fast.

steel shooting is fun as hell....and uses a LOT of ammo. USPSA shoots are great too.

I am not great by any means but there is a steel stage with 4 large targets and 1 stop plate, run and gun I think is the name. I scored my first sub 4 second run back in May and it took me two shots for the small stop plate. I was excited since it was a draw from a holster. we are going to try rim fire next time which is start from low-ready position and go for sub 3 second runs!

Competitive shooting and practical shooting is very fun. You should google it for dallas and give it a try. go to a match and watch first and then go to compete.

3MilsRight (http://www.3milsright.com/) has monthly and quarterly 3-gun matches.

North Texas Multigun (http://www.northtexasmultigun.com/) has monthly 3-gun competitions as well. The ETTS gun range hosts all of their events in Waxahachie. They have a Facebook page as well: https://www.facebook.com/groups/261928403927136/ (if that link doesn't work just search for North Texas Multigun)

You also have the pretty popular Fallen Brethren (http://fb3gun.com) 3-gun completion that is a yearly event which takes place 73 miles NW of DFW airport. It is taking place October 2-4 (check their website)

I am going to go to the NTMG event on November 23/24 when I am home on vacation. I have tried to go to several before, but it seems like it is either canceled due to rain or something comes up last minute. When you are only in the states for 2 weeks a year, it is hard to plan for fun things like this. I hope it works out this vacation and I get to do my first 3-gun. I have been wanting to do it for a LONG time.

I also like nictaylor00's Youtube videos. He explain what he is going to do and why, then you see him in action. He is also a DFW local if I remember correctly.

They do a lot of that stuff up here at a place called doubletapranch. It is pretty neat and fast paced.

Just outside of Wichita Falls, about 2hrs north of the dfw area. Last time I was out there they had a few people from that area shooting and was just a monthly match. They do host a national match in a few different things a few times a year.

How many rounds do you shoot in a comp? What do you mean "stop plate?"

@dee, I may make the drive out there and check it out, definitely interested in this stuff!

Depends on the type of run. USPSA matches may have "clearing" stages where you shoot 36 rounds in about 20-30 seconds. Average might be 6 stages with 10-18 rounds per stage. So 60 to 120 rounds assuming you hit every time....you won't!

Steel shoots you usually have 5 or 6 plates standing, 1 shot per plate. You take 5 runs at each stage, and there are usually 5 or 6 stages. So up to 36 shots per stage x 6 or at least 200 rounds...possibly more if you are missing plates. Stop plate is the plate you must hit last. Steel shoots can burn through rounds FAST!!!

CTIDPA is a good one I used to be a member with them, they primarly shoot at the Winchester gallery on the North East side of town. They also have monthly shoots in Weatherford at the Texas Guns Gallery and Gear place just off of 20 if you are on that side of town. They also do multi gun matches every now and then.

DAPS (Dallas ACtion Pistol Shooters) is another good one but a bit of a drive. When I would go shoot with them during the week I wouldn't get home till around 11 or midnight.

Damn that's a lot of rounds lol. How do you practice? Do they have open days that aren't competitions? Thanks for all the good info! I'll definitely be looming into this
