Better not get caught with a spotlight on your rifle, and a deer in the bed of the truck.

I had to think for a while about this one. Looking back I have probably killed more stuff at night with my 10 gauge shotgun than anything else. Also it has been dumb luck rather than skill that allows me to bag anything after dark. I have generally just pointed the gun at noise or faint movement in the field of the spotlight.

Not really when in the middle of several thousand acres of nothingness. I just make sure the animal is small and clearly an animal.

Although the mentality of only hunting at night on a full moon with good options that have excellent light transfer may make sense, you're only going to get one shot before your bolt action blinds you with the muzzle flash and effectively renders your ability to do anything else irrelevant.

Just close your eyes before you pull the trigger! Duh!

Haha, I've actually tried that before when hunting up close, and it still dilates your eyes through your eye lids at night, you open them back up and you can't see shit still. It doesn't' last as long, but definitely long enough to ruin anything you're hunting. A good flash hider works, but even a small puff of flash is distracting enough for you to have to reacquire what you're shooting at and you're probably screwed.

That's why you use a tough bullet and line up 2 or 3.

It's not overly difficult a partition from just about any caliber will work although I've done it with 150gr Ballistic Tips and even this last year with 162gr Amax's. My dad got three one time with a 150gr Ballistic Tip from a 7mm Rem mag and several two for one's. The key is to not hit anything solid on the first pig and let the rest just happen.
