Springfield Issues Safety Recall for XDS-9 and XDS-45 Pistols

Anyone been keeping up with this stuff?

Evidentially they asked everyone to send their guns back without a proper solution to the problem, and no parts to do the fix. Now they are saying it is going to be longer than 30 days.

I am in no hurry, but I would really like to have my gun back so I can do my CHL class instead of using my XDM.

If you cannot pass the CHL test with any random pistol you should not own a gun.

I didn't realize my ability to carry a gun should be questioned because I Prefer to shoot the gun I intend to carry, not a Fullsize.

I didn't imply that, I implied that the CHL test is so easy that it a person cannot pass it, the shoudn't be carrying a gun. My primary point was what does it matter which you use for the test (except SA vs Revolver of course)? It's not like those 50 rounds are sufficient to give you good experience or anything. Practice most with what you carry but why wait on getting your XDS back to get the ball rolling on your license?

I could understand if in a state where you have to qualify with each and every pistol you want to carry though.

I am going to wait awhile to send mine in. Although im only 300 rounds in, there havent been any issues related to the recall.

I wouldn't take it that way and just get the test over with so you can hurry up and get your CHL. You practice with your carry gun right? I wouldn't feel the need to prove how well you shoot with it for your CHL. Just my thoughts on it anyway.

It is no problem, I considered replying with a DFWM asshole-esque response, but reckoned we were all adults in the gun forum.

I've only had one issue with 4 different Glock's in close to 15 years. I'd go out of the way to say I'd stake my life on one out of the box.

I had thought about the PF9 based on size and price as a good "ultra" CHL gun but after the majority of the reviews I read said the same thing I decided on a Ruger LCR for a deep concealment gun and I doubt it will disappointment me. I'm about 90% feeling the same way about my Taurus M85. Most of the 10% of doubt comes from reputation alone but I have yet to have one issue with it.

I sent mine in the day after the recall was announced. Apparently Springfield didn't like the first fix and have been testing a second fix that is in its final stages of testing. I would definitely wait to send it in until they have a real fix and have returned the giant piles of guns they are sitting on. Sucks because it's my favorite gun and I want it back dammit.

This Springfield XD-S™ Recall FAQ will be updated every Friday through the recall process. Please check back for updates.

Thank you for the positive response to our voluntary safety recall and to our most recent update. We exercised extreme caution by issuing this recall and we did so because safety is, and always has been, our paramount concern. We truly appreciate the enormous support, patience and loyalty of our customers and we remain committed to resolving this matter quickly and ensuring that you are pleased with your upgraded 3.3 XD-S™.

As we noted in last Friday's update, our testing of potential upgrade solutions has continued and we are pleased to tell you that we have made significant progress over the last seven days. We have now identified what we believe is our final upgrade solution and throughout this coming week we will be continuing with our thorough and exhaustive testing of that solution. It's because of our commitment to your safety that we are conducting such extensive testing and we are working as fast as we can so that we can return your upgraded pistol to you.

We understand that our voluntary safety recall has made it inconvenient for you to be without your pistol, and we sincerely apologize for that. We expect to have more definitive information to share with you by Friday, October 11.

As a reminder, do not use your 3.3 XD-S™ until the upgrade has been performed.
