  • Hunter Education Course

So where have you guys gone to do this? Last year I got my license at Academy and did deferred at that time. I looked at the TPWD site and looks like I can take the first part online and print the quiz results, but would still need to do the field test.

Just go do the 8 hour course and get it out of the way.

Good info, and some shooting if they offer it. Some dont.

I have been looking for someplace to take it too but it seems like they're all 2 day classes.

Those dudes do shotgunning, .22's, and black powder shooting. It's excellent.

My wife and I are Hunter Safety instructors. If you can wait until after Sept 1, the class time requirement has been reduced to 5 hours. The shooting part of ours will be archery - (nothing to it even if you're not an archery guy; the focus is on demonstrating range safety, not perfect scores). We'll be teaching one in September with our game warden in Emory. Proceeds benefit the Rains ISD Archery Team.

We can also teach the other TP&W courses: Angler Education, Bowhunter Education and Boating Safety.

EDIT: Mods. Posted this without thinking it might be construed as a business ad. Not trying to advertise a business. The proceeds go to charity. If necessary, delete.

I used these folks for the class portion...

Firearms training courses (inc. Texas LTC) in private, indoor gun range. Handgun 101, Concealed Handgun License Training, Hunter Education

...You could tell the dude did it a 1000 times, but I did not feel like he rushed it or anything.

That's when I did mine, and *somehow* my check got cashed by the state but the paperwork never made it through. Ill take it and boater saftey someday, even though it is a crock of shit.

For people that are just jumping into hunting or the outdoors it's probably a pretty good thing but being raised around it I can't say I really learned anything.

Funny part is based off my experience - is that boater safety should be more of a requirement than hunter's ed.

Hunters easily police each other. (generally gun people try to as well) I see a lot of bad etiquette on the lakes. You can just go buy a 300+ hp boat, plop it on the lake and act like a fool with no training at all.

Just my experience so far though.

Agreed. I took mine probably 16-17 years ago. They were holding classes at the Boy Scouts big chunk of land off 482 and 20. Didn't learn anything I didn't already know, but at least I still have my card.
