Mossberg 500 help

Need some help with my new shotgun. I took the barrel off and grabbed it by the pump/slide when going to put it back together and the slide locked forward. Now I can't get it to release and pull back to put the barrel back on. Wtf am I missing? Also, the little release lever by the trigger housing is stuck up too, so it's not that.

Not sure if it applies, but the 870 has that "lever" on both sides of the receiver. Maybe there is one you can't see?

I got the trigger housing out and the damn thing is still stuck like a mofo. Starting to piss me off, I don't get why the bolt and slide won't come back, I don't see anything holding it locked forward.

sounds like ur bolt slides are backwards

Check on youtube for a break down/rebuild video. There's plenty. IF you get a chance, I'd be interested to see if you could measure the diameter of the safety detent ball.

Finally figured it out. Not sure what was jamming it up, but after i reset the hammer on the trigger and re-installed it, it took a little jiggling of the action stop safety lever and some man handling of the slide, and it finally gave. maybe it just needs a good lube since its been sitting around for years.
