  • Anyone seen/fired one of these?

Since 1959 the venerable AR-7 has been the choice of U.S. Air Force pilots who need a small-caliber rifle they can count on should they have to punch out over a remote area. Through the years the AR-7's reputation for portability, ease of operation and reliability has carried over to the civilian world. Today it's

I've only read about them, never had the chance to fire one. Supposedly they work well.

My dad has one as well. It is really cool and fun to assemble and look at but I have never fired it. The feed ramp is part of the magazine and the sites are bad to say the least. All in all though for the money I don't really think you come out too bad.

For what it is, it serves its purpose well. I wish it were longer, but then it wouldn't be so easy to pack it wherever you're going.

The sights are very crude, but they hold up well.

I have the pistol version and it is a huge pile of shit. They were only made to ever fire a few hundred rounds (at most) in a survival situation. Extremely cheaply made.

I've had mine for 25 years. Originally made by Charter Arms IIRC. Shoots pretty decent, is lightweight and fits in a back pack.

I have had one for a few years, never had a issue with it and I only run federal bulk ammo through it no high dollar ammo. I would love to fit a small red dot into the stock but not enough room. Good little squirrel and rabbit gun, throw it in a backpack and go.

                    I would rather have a 10/22 takedown.

Still shoots well, and packs small. I've taken more rabbits and squirrels with it than I can remember. It's a pretty well built gun, not like modern CA stuff.

The original was built by, IIRC, Armalite. Designed and first built in the late 50s or early 60's. Charter most likely bought the original tooling from them.
