All of you guys who enjoy shooting rifles should try bow hunting. I have shot maybe a 100 rounds of ammo in the past two years since i got my bow.

So basically ive killed a 100 turtles.

Im glad kansas isnt all leased up like most states. its starting to get that way, but i still have plenty of places to go hunt just from knocking on doors or running into the land owner at the store.

I enjoy hunting with both rifle and bow. My area doesn't offer the best opportunities for bow hunting as mesquite trees don't make the best bow blinds.

Ive had just as good of encounters in ground blind/tents as being up in the tree.

Bow hunting has also gave me more access to the big deer. Once rifle season hits you cant pattern anything with them being chased around like rabbits.

One of the guys tried that last year and had problems with cattle rubbing on the blind, and snakes getting inside. There isn't much pressure in our area so movement stays about the same throughout both seasons. I've found a pretty good oak tree on a fairly well traveled trail I'm gonna put a stand in when it dries out a bit.

Yeah I hear ya. Different states are like apples and oranges sometimes. I remember cj talking about how hard it was to sneak up on a turkey or something. They are dumb as rocks here.

I wouldn't say the difference is in the states just the area, there are areas close that are like you described when rifle season starts.

As far as turkeys go they are fairly skitish around here, I've never been able to sneak within archery range or my within my range.

bow hunting is definitely addicting. The both times I've tried to get a deer, I missed. As fun as it is though, once gun season starts I'm ready to put some meat in the freezer.

George, I've missed a few times too, but i always try and get that early season doe in the freezer week of season. Then i can concentrate on buck hunting.

Checked all the cams yesterday and had some insect problems. None got in the cams, but still a pita. Sprayed down the security box's with tempo sc. We will see how the deer react.

Moved a few around, as the bucks will really start grouping up to finish growing out.

We did spring food plots for the first time at our East Texas place. Planted in late March

They came up really well with some timely rain, two weeks after planting.

Fawns are starting to hit the ground, we had several does that had twins. We started feeding year around a couple years ago and its starting to pay off as far as antler growth, but we still have a long way to go with this property.

I havent been out to check cameras or field in a few weeks. I did buy a new internally suppressed .308 I cant wait to use

and I bought a crossbow too.

I havent been in years. My wife asked me the other day if I was going to take the kids hunting, and I told her it was going to cost us a few grand a year for a lease plus gear. She wasnt smiling anymore.

I cant bow hunt. I hunted like a madman growing up, and only once have I been close enough with a bow to a deer. Thinking back, maybe one deer taken with a gun has been under 100yrds for me.
