9mm: USP vs P226 vs M&P

From what I've heard, they make great assault rifles.

They are incredible rifles. They use a Johnson style rotating bolt with a long stroke has pistol similar to a Sig 550 or AR70. They have the ergonomics of an M16, but with provisions for burst and auto. They also have a folding stock.

I really, really want a K1A1 or K2 and have been looking for a while.

I'm planning on going to go to Bullet Trap this weekend to try them all out.

I have shot a suppressed 226 and USP before. The 226 iron sights are obstructed by the suppressor. It also had a decent amount of blowback debris. Ask gat0r about his, he can give you some insight. I really liked shooting my USP suppressed the most. The tall tactical sights clear any can, and I was shooting 1" groups at 20ft with the can. Didn't have any blowback and it ran perfectly and well balanced.

Edit: both were .45's, not 9mm.

It's an Osprey so regular sights should clear, right?

not the USP. we are currently overloaded with HK nutswingers.

HK p30 + threaded barrel. USP is a good gun, but everything is proprietary.

Trigger is terrible.

If I'm going to spend that much, I want a nice trigger.

The trigger on a M&P blows goats, not sure they still offer the threaded barrel. You would have to buy a Storm Lake($220) That said you could buy the M&P, threaded barrel, Apex Tatical trigger/sear kit and still come out cheaper that the other two. If you go M&P I would buy a .40cal and buy the barrel in 9mm. Buy a couple of 9mm mags and you have best of everything. Not that I have that exact set up or anything

I like this idea. I picked up an M&P 22, and Bud's still shows them for $650.

I've got an USP 9MM you can shoot, if you want. Think a threaded barrel replacement is $200 from H&K. I've got 3 H&K's. .45 USP Compact & .40 USP Compact & .9MM USP all are SA/DA variants. I'm an admitted H&K homer though, so I'm probably not much help.

do you plan on shooting subsonic 9mm...? Suppressor on 9mm seems like pissing on your own leg. Will it make that much of a difference with the ammo being super sonic? Sorry, asking dumb question maybe???

I just picked up one of their 1911 E series and have been very pleased. Tight slide to frame fit, great accuracy and finished out very well. Only complaint is a warning about the pistols ability to fire with mag removed.

I'm looking for a 9mm pistol that comes with a factory threaded barrel for suppression purposes. The USP Tactical, various P226 threaded barrel models, and M&P with the threaded barrel kit are on my list to look at. Any preference among the three, or any others to consider?

You know you could get a full size barrel for that 10 and then just thread it....

Bullshit, the word pistol predates the year 1600 and applies to a small firearm designed to be shot with one hand, to facililitate mounted use.

That kind of pedantic shit is what creates the negative stereotypes which turn people away from the shooting community just as sure as the asshole range nazis.

Same bullshit about claiming a detachable magazine is not a clip, even though it functions as a clip; If you want to get really pedantic the traditional word is hopper, as the magazine was where munitions were stored.

I hadn't considered that. I was looking for threaded barrels for them or CZs and the prices I saw were around $300, which is more than a conversion and almost the price of a new gun.

Funny how nomenclature of all types changes as time passes to add more specificity. Take World War I for example, a heavy machine gun in World War I referred to a first generation MG that shot .303, 7.92, or similar caliber. Today the term heavy machine gun refers to an M2/DSHK, or similar. As time passes definitions change and evolve for all things, not just firearms.
