DEER stand a far better chance than any beef product you consume.

This. Though we had a river on our property, the turtles were never in short supply.

And to the OP...pfft on shooting them when they're sunning. :P The real challenge is when they come up for air in the water. Nothing like cleaning the head off and watching what I called the "turtle bob" as it slowly submerged.

I just noticed the aftershock of the mass of shell fragments hitting the water.

I really admire turtles, they definitely don't move much, and when they do it is slow, and the largest mofos live for hundreds of years. Kind of puts all that exercise bullshit to rest.

But they only exist to fuck up stock tanks and bite toes off of people, so finding an alternative use for them as exploding targets is really in keeping with god's plan AFIAC.

I can understand and agree with that but in the videos posted above the current of the water does not suggest this is a stock tank management type situation, of course I could be wrong.

Turtles are very invasive. If left unchecked they will overrun a water system, be it lake or river. You do know that when shot, their meat gets recycled back into the eco-system. Catfish, crawfish, freshwater shrimp, etc..... eat their remains.
In Louisiana we have huge alligator snapping turtles. Bastards get as big as a washtub. They will take your hand, foot off underwater. I have seen one snap a broomstick with little effort. When I see these idiots noodeling, I cringe. Imagine sticking your hand in a hole that a 300lb snapping turtle lives? No more hand.

                          Necessary in an eco-system, yes----cute, not-so-much.

Also, if left unmaintained, turtles will eventually move into urban areas where they will inhabit the sewers and cause a pizza shortage.
