I know nothing about them & don't shoot a lot either so this would have been pretty good for myself. I noticed that there are some other kits available on the site. Which other would you guys recommend???

They've got a chrome lined barrel one for 574.00 now.

Still the cheapest (complete) kit out there right now.

What's the difference between the M4 & Mid Length? I don't know crap about these rifles. Is the chrome lined barrel better to have? What about the options for the lower receiver? They have standard, infidel & jolley roger? What about the bolt carrier group? Standard AR15 or M16? Sorry for all the questions kust want to make sure I don't make any mistakes.

        Thanks!!!

I was looking on the M4carbines forum & everyone on there says that Del-Ton is crap. How many of you guys have had experience with there rifles? Me & a buddy want to order one but I don't know crap about AR's.

          Thanks for any help!!!

FWIW: they're the cheapest for a reason. You can't buy grade A trim on a shoestring budget, so you get what you pay for. That said, I'm ordering one to be a range whore and blow a bunch of ammo through. Plus, my wife, her bro and some other family/friends want to get into shooting, which I know means using my stuff, so it'll work fine for that.

Cool.... I'm not looking for a grade A rifle on a $600ish budget but I just didn't want something that I will have problems with either. I will only be using it for entertainment purposes at the range & ranch. I was looking at reviews on youtube & it looks like it is a pretty good AR for the money.

What about the options for the lower receiver? They have standard, infidel & jolley roger? What are the differences & which is best?

The differences are that one has plain-jane markings, one says, "Infidel," in English and Arabic, and one has pirate-themed markings. My favorite of the three is the Jolly Roger, BTW.

I bought it just to be my first AR. I wasn't looking for it to be grade a top of the line stuff. I wanted to get acquainted with the parts/cleaning/etc. My next one will be more expensive. That's why I'm looking for a cheap red dot.

I have a Del-Ton 16" Carbine non-chrome lined complete upper and after about 350 rounds it's doing just fine. Everything is tight, no malfunctions and good accuracy.

I also have a Del-Ton 16" Mid-length chrome lined complete upper on the way to me. Weather permitting, I'll be trying it out this weekend.

I think I have almost 200rds through my 20" Del-ton (not chromed) and have not had a hint of a problem. I dont plan on cleaning it (but will relubricate as needed) until it malfunctions to give me an idea of what it can handle.

For what you want, it'll be grand.

So, I knew the M16A2 and figured it would be easy to pick up on these ARs. Generally speaking it is not. I mean, it's not rocket science but they are so....modular and customizable when you're first checking them out and trying to figure out WTF people are talking about - it is confusing. There are options upon options.

Here is a simple way I look at these name brands. I truly believe their is a difference, however minor they maybe. However, (please - the pros correct me if I'm wrong) the specifications of these parts are not top secret. So, I'd have no problem buying a 500 dollar Delton kit and having some fun. I bought SLIGHTLY better name brands simply because I wanted 1 AR for now to love and adore. (Plus this kit and the Spikes Tactical kit for 700 were sold out all the time) (What I'm trying to say is they are all made by machines anyway, someone puts in the specs and out comes parts that'll work, if not fancy or finished uber nice...etc)

Now to me, maybe the finish is not as good, maybe CS sucks - of course you're not going to have upgraded parts and such. Still though, it's hard to get an M&P 22lr for 500 dollars. This Delton kit will do the job. When you pull the trigger a bullet will come out. I actually want one still just for a simple iron sight gun.

To answer your question between the M4 and mid-length, it looks like they used the same picture on the web site. Anyway, I had this problem when trying to figure out what free float tube to get. I ended up figuring out I had a midlength rifle, but I put a full length tube on it. Now below is my interpretation of all this and it PROBABLY won't be technically correct. For my purposes I have not had time or the need to FULLY investigate.

                            1. There are 3 or 4 options from what I can tell. Pistol, Carbine, mid and full length. (not including variations of the barrels..etc. free float, bull barrels...so on and so forth.)

                            2. I think TECHNICALLY it is where the gas block is located on the barrel. However, I generally identify it by the length of the barrel. Keep in mind though, just like I am putting a full length rail on my mid-length rifle - you can have a longer barrel but it could be called a carbine due to gas block location. (I THINK this is correct and hope to be corrected if I'm wrong)

                            3. Again, generally speaking this is how I see it...
Pistol length - I have no freaking idea. The pictures of these weapons that I've seen looked retard IMO.

Carbine length - In my world is less then a 16" barrel.

                            Mid-length - Seems to be 16-18"

                            Full-length is 20" and above.

If you note in those ads this mid-length specified a 16" barrel.

                            4. Now, to get technical I partially read some threads about barrel length and gas block location... pressures...recoil...ftfs...etc I can not even remotely speak about this right now.

Anyway, I just wanted to dump that newb knowledge on ya from another newb and maybe some of the pros will provide some input, corrections and clarifications. In general though, I think you'll get the idea from what I said.

Also, there are arguments on barrel lengths, recoil and accuracy. That's another thread though.
