Look at the extra beef above the cylinder on these Dan Wessons compared to S&W N-frames

S&W 629 above a medium frame Dan Wesson (used for .357 and .22)

Dan Wesson .44 Mag (large frame) above a S&W M-29
Atlantic Blue '00 - '03 Cobra motor and TKO600, solid axle, full MM suspension
    Silver '01 Vette - D1 blown LS

I absolutely hate blackhawks for ergonomics. But they are one of the only common affordable wheelguns in 30 carbine.

If that design fits you, then that caliber is an awesome handgun caliber. The absolute loudest bang and biggest flash evar, and a muzzle velocity that the big bores would die for. Trust me.

Yeah, but you're crazy. You like .30 Carbine in revolvers and .45 WinMag in M1 Carbines.

Compare them side by side. Cheap filipino surplus in a used blackhawk will really amaze you.

Dollar for loudness of bang (LoB)and inches of flame (IoF) the 30 is freakin impressive. And cheap.

This from a 454 fan who has done up some really impressive LoB/IoF experiments..LoL

In a blackhawk the 30 runs about 1500 or maybe a little more for the standard PMC stuff. I haven't chronoed much.

I remember some discussions in the AMT forums about 90gr at 1800 from the little AMT. Probably some wishful thinking as well as some overpressure stuff, but 1600 from an auto with a 5" barrel doesn't seem too far off normal, and potentially with cheap commercial ammo.

Remember the 30 is generally loaded with something at speeds slower than Accurate #9, in a short barrel you should expect a whole lot of flame and noise from a wheelgun.

Hey the OP asked about FUN, and I posit that even the big bore guys will attest to the fun factor of a rfle cartridge in a wheelgun when that cartridge is normally sold 50 to a box....

Sounds pretty fun at the very least cheaper to feed than most.

I haven't ever even picked one up. Nor a birdshead for that matter. Just never had the opportunity.

I find that birdsheads are too small for my hand, so I've never bothered to shoot one in .45LC. My uncle has a Bisley in .45LC though, and it was pretty forgiving. A lot of the big bore converters go straight for Bisley grips for that reason.
