Ok, so I am in the process of assembling a rifle for my father in law as a gift, hopefully for this Christmas. I have the lower but need a suitable upper, in a caliber sufficient for hunting. I don't hunt so I am learning as I go, but am leaning towards the 6.8 so far. Mostly he hunts deer and some pigs with the occasional some kind of sheep hunt. From what I can tell without giving up the game is that most of his shots are less than 300yds.

I am afraid that .223 won't have the DRT effect on medium critters that 6.8 does and .300 black out wouldn't have the range.

This is the upper I am thinking about.
Rock River Arms, Inc. offers a complete line of American made, custom built AR15 style rifles.

Am I on the right track or should I say screw it and go with a nice dissy style .223 / 5.56?

Light bullets in .300BLK work pretty well on CXP2 class game.

I like the .300 blk for less than 100 yards or less. It's a badass round supressed. 6.8 is a better all around caliber.

SSA makes a huge selection of 6.8 ammo.
