If hunting from a stand I prefer a nice sturdy bolt action either in 22-250 or occasionally 30-06 to get the two or three for one shot.
It's 4500 acres in between Junction and Fredericksburg. Mainly hog, and some smaller varmint.

Because of weight I would leave my AR10 at home...my AR15 in 458 SOCOM or 50 Beowulf

AR10 suppressed for blind and stationary/longer range hunting. 7.5" .223 SBR suppressed for walking long distances, and a .500 magnum for brush stalking.

                Ever consider a 10mm magnum barrel? 180gr @ 1800 or so, but .400" diameter.

That's something I'd definitely be interested in if I see one that's a good deal.

velocity is highly dependent on barrel length for all of these calibers. But 10mm magnum is a beast. However, .41 magnum is a little easier to get brass for and close to the same ballistics. .454 is also a beast if you run across a decent deal.

There's a long barrel .480 Ruger Super Redhawk at the gun shop.

I've been using a .17 in the head around the ear. They mostly never move from that spot after shot there. The only drawback is how the bullet on the .17 moves with distance or wind so I try to get as close as possile. At 15-17 a box of 50 their a bargin and you can still find them on the shelf.
