  • Someone say bacon?

I was out at a friends house/shop doing some A/C work on one of his trucks when I look out the back and can just make out the back of a couple large pigs. I yelled at my friend and my dad to let them know and we start gathering a rifle for each of us with some ammo. We then drove down up wind to stalk down towards 3 very large pigs (300 plus), well along the way we see 2 groups one with 7 the other was 18+. After talking it over we decided to close in on the group of 7 since they were the closest, we dropped 2 out of the group and hit 3 others as they were running off. After reloading we turned around and the group of 18+ were going by at around 150yds we then dropped 2 out of that group but only hit 1 more on the run and lost it before it hit the brush headed for the red. I snapped a picture of one sow that was around 150lbs before heading to the truck while getting there another group took off and I managed to hit one just as it dropped off the terrace headed to the river. Sadly during all of this the 3 large pigs took of opposite from us but I figured we did pretty decent for 3 guys with bolt rifles.
Anyway here is the only pic I snapped, sad to say none had very big chompers though as I've been wanting to do a euro mount of a large pig.

I might be able to help if you come down this way depending on how stuff is moving around here and if you come this way instead of 35. Right now they are really bad my dad shot 3 less than a half mile from his house Monday morning. I think they have gotten a little over 10 in the last 10 days not counting today's kills. What's bad is they aren't even hunting them it's just the ones they see in the middle of checking/feeding cows. I feel like we would have had less run off today if my dad had used something besides his 223 with light sp's.

I've been hunting pigs for over 15yrs, I have a pretty good grasp on size/weight reference.

I'm just a touch over 2hrs from Denton and about the same from Sherman/Denison area which you come through as well. There are some good size pigs up in Arkansas too I have some cousins up around Hot Springs that have shot some.

Might come to that if they stay this bad, I typically hunt at my deer lease as I can sit and hunt at the same time. This usually allows a two for one shot as they stand still longer.

All I ever keep is backstrap when I take the time. These days its more of an obligation to the farmers to shoot them as they cause to many problems.

X2 My dad shot this guy and 1/8 mile from his driveway, pig had wallowed a 4' round hole that was 2' deep in the middle of a plowed wheat field. A whole group can cause substantial damage to the area. A local Pecan farmer has to run an electric fence around his orchards to keep them out as they will eat up all his profit margine.
