and one of the items on my list is a new rifle. total i'll have about $5k to wast... but only looking to spend between $500-$1000 i narrowed it down to two rifles.

rem 700 in 308, questions about this rifle are.
which model 700 can be converted to a detachable magazine. i think 'keith' did this to his?
all i wanna do to it "for now" is a small bi-pod. picatinny rail scope mount and a decent scope.

All 700s can be converted to have a detachable magazine. But honestly if it was me, I would buy a Manners, Macmillan, etc and do a detachable mag on one of those.

If you like the Winchester, try the FN Herstal PBR. Magazine fed right out of the box and a tack fucking driver. The most accurate rifle I have had thus far has been a FN PBR. It loved to cut up 1" black pasties on 3"x5" cards at Alpine with a 30yr old Redfield piece of shit glass on it.

Either will work fine, the Remington will more aftermarket options than the Winchester. Winchester is built by FN now and are really nice and very accurate. Remington makes good rifles as well but their fit and finish on lower end models aren't exactly great. If you look at rifles from big green try and find a 5R they are solid from the start just add DBM and go. Another option is to find a sps varmint but plan on buying a new stock the factory one is junk. The Winchester will come with a decent stock but there are only a few options for DBM.

I know this stock has a lil sticker shock, but it has a mini-chassis. That means it does not need to be bedded, and it has the bottom metal for detachable mags. That's about a $600 value IMO. Badger bottom metal is around $400, and having a stock bedded is around $250.

That hill country rifle seems like you get less than the scout supply rifle other than the stock, for a LOT more. $2500 I'd want a lot more for my money.

I ve been researching online a whole range of priced rifles.
The info in here on the FN SPR rifle is spot on . I don't think you could do much better below 1500$ ~ Those are about as accurate as you can get, for even much higher priced rifles.
Also the bushnell scope info is great someone posted. I would also throw out that sightron makes great scopes in that this range.
I'm trying to shop somewhere below this range. The 'cheap' market <1000$ rifles and <1000 scopes is breaking out into very accurate rifles too. They aren't nearly as nice but many will easily do sub moa. They're more in line with my goal too of a rifle for hunting also. even 1 moa is enough for hunting, so I'm debating whether ill really ever practice enough anywhere to warrant heavy rifle / sub-moa
