In looking at the VTR vs. AAC-SD, it appears that the AAC is solely designed to work with a can, and has the shortest barrel.

If I'm not looking to add a can anytime soon, what are thoughts on the 700 SPS Varmint in .308?

I'd like a rifle that is a great hunting weapon but will also be good for some long(er) target...

Sps Target is a great start the barrel is a little long at 26" and the stock sucks but a good option.

I'd also point out that the Savage accustock rifles are pretty hard to beat for the money.

I remember masturbating to that thing on the old board. Sick ass rifle, dude.

Savage also sells a few of their target rifles with McMillan and HS Precision stocks for a little more money....Savage won me over years ago when they introduced the accutrigger. To me, they are some of the best and most accurate factory produced rifles. Their target rifles outshoot some custom target rifles that cost 2-4x as much...I won't buy another Remington, at least not a factory Rem...

I hate the feel of the accutrigger. I have had more issues with savage than any other brand and will not own one. That being said there are plenty of people out there that have had good luck with them.
