  • Got my first gun!

I can't believe I found the exact gun I've been wanting. Hit the Lewisville gun show yesterday and found this little beauty for a pretty damn good deal. We went straight to the gun range and broke it in. I love the way it shot. I'm so stoked!

The 238 is an awesome little gun! I have been looking for one forever here in Tucson. How much did you give for it, if you don't mind. You can PM me...

For the future, take the firearm home and clean/lube/inspect before hitting the range.

Nice gun btw, I want one minus the engravings/pink grip.

I loved the way it shoots. Hardly any recoil, lightweight and very comfortable.

I like it, glad you enjoy shooting it. There isn't anything worse than buying a gun and not liking it.

Just some FYI for anyone interested.. Leah's P238 ESP-Nitron was manufactured 1/2013 and has a polished feed ramp. The P238 Nitron I bought from Matt was manufactured 5/2012, and has a blued feed ramp. Her polished feed ramp feeds hollow point ammo well, my blued feed ramp does not. This is apparently a pretty common issue with the P238s (Hollow point ammo not feeding). It hangs up on the ramp when 'racking' the slide. FMJ ball ammo does not have that issue on either of ours. Also, this is only happening for me with the first 3 rounds in the 7 round mag, after that, no problems, so the magazine spring appears to be a contributing factor. As that spring breaks in it may help.

Apparently polishing the feed ramp on the blued version solves the problem, which I will be doing to mine. Or running 300+ rounds, which with ammo availability and pricing, is a bit cost prohibitive.

Figured I would throw that out there for anyone looking at P238s.. Either look for one with the ramp already polished or plan to do it yourself.

Finally, from what I have read, this is only an issue with 'admin' loading. Based on range reports I have read, when firing hollow point ammo the issue does not occur (at least as often).

Polishing the feed ramp will fix the feed issues. Btw, the gun you got from me has about 500-750 rds thru it.

Also try the six rd magazine, I seemed to only have feed issues with the seven round mag.

My new P290 does not like to have the mag topped off on the extended mag. The spring is a beast so I believe the same thing it just needs some rounds thru it. Same thing with some new mags on our 220's we have noticed. Some guys bought the extended mags and if they are loaded to capacity it makes the first round take a dive. Kind of weird if you ask me but very common lately. Just started seeing this, this year. Hell my last department had the 226 and we shot a bazillion rounds out of those with no issues ever. Come to think of it the ball ammo may have worked but I can not remember now. Factory mags no issue I think.

Manually the 6 round mags have the same issue, but I haven't fired it yet so I don't know if the issue exists there. Good to know on the round count, I do plan to polish the feed ramp as Leah's doesn't have the issue and hers is 'factory' polished.

And to be clear, I'm in no way blaming any issue on you, this is clearly a common issue with the P238.

Oh I knew you weren't blaming me

That gun was very well maintained, and since I purchased it new, I can speak for every round put through it

It had a couple of ftfs and one fte out of the box even with target ammo, but after a couple of hundred rounds, it didn't fail once during my chl.

I've also put 25 rds of zombie max through it, and no ftfs

polishing the feed ramp takes all of 5 minutes, just polish it and be done. My wife's P938 Nightmare had this issue.

That's the plan.. Just need to buy some metal polish.

I only posted in case someone did a "search" on P238s, for the same issue. When I did a general google search on it I came across several threads elsewhere referring to build date and polished vs unpolished. I was just trying to consolidate some of that info here since others mentioned they wanted them / liked them.

Just pick up some 800 and 1500 and you'll get it good to go. You can polish if you want to but the main cut will do the job. You can polish it by putting a bore mop in a drill.
