Previous owner of my recently acquired 1911 stripped the grip bushings out. I need to tap larger threads and can't swallow $70 shipped for a damn tap from brownells. I can't find that tap anywhere

Just take it to a smith that has the tools already, much cheaper than buying a gold plated tap.
